Role overview

We're looking for a Backend/Data Engineer to help us design, scale, and optimize the pipelines that transform raw climate data into meaningful, decision-ready insights.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement robust APIs and backend systems to keep data and services flowing smoothly.
  • Orchestrate complex workflows using Argo, Airflow, Prefect, or similar tools.
  • Work with modern cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred, but AWS/GCP also valued).
  • Automate and improve CI/CD pipelines, GitHub workflows, and deployment processes.
  • Establish and uphold coding standards, ensure maintainable tests, and prioritize scalability and reliability.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, mentor teammates, and elevate engineering best practices.
  • Thrive in a startup environment that values adaptability, thoughtful pragmatism, and long-term thinking.

What you'll bring

  • Solid experience with Python (or similar languages) and backend development.
  • Strong understanding of API design (FastAPI or similar frameworks).
  • Familiarity with the testing pyramid and writing maintainable, reliable test suites.
  • Proficiency with GitHub and CI/CD workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, ideally Azure.
  • A track record of contributing to technical decisions and setting engineering standards.
  • A collaborative mindset; you enjoy mentoring, pairing, and sharing knowledge.
  • Fluency in English (C1 required); Spanish is a plus.
  • 4+ years of experience in backend or data engineering roles.

Nice to have

  • Experience with workflow orchestration (Argo, Airflow, Prefect, etc.).
  • Ability to bridge backend and data engineering.
  • Knowledge of containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Personal interest in climate, sustainability, or impact-driven technologies.
