Extreme weather events and geohazards are becoming more frequent and severe, placing growing pressure on communities and emergency services. The EUfunded UNICORN project develops Copernicusbased applications that enhance early warning, forecasting and realtime hazard monitoring for floods, wildfires and volcanic activity. For this, UNICORN integrates advanced Earth Observation technologies and scalable digital tools to deliver timely, actionable insights for authorities, citizens, industries and policy makers, strengthening preparedness and emergency response capacity.
The project is built around four use cases across diverse European regions and hazard types, ensuring solutions are validated with endusers and tailored to real operational needs. Through this approach, UNICORN helps build more resilient and inclusive societies capable of anticipating and responding effectively to natural hazards.
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101180172.
