Downscaling

Which climate risk platform is right for your business?

Definition

Downscaling is the process of translating coarse global climate model output into finer, local-scale information so that projections are meaningful at the level of an individual asset.

Example in context

You're reviewing climate data for one building. Raw global models work at scales of tens of kilometres — too coarse for a single site. Downscaling turns that information into a usable, site-specific risk estimate that you can underwrite.

Why it matters

Without downscaling, projections are too coarse for investment or insurance decisions, and their credibility is limited. EarthScan combines downscaling with bias correction to provide asset-level accuracy.

FAQ

Why is downscaling needed for climate risk?
